Which scheme does the call for architects relate to?
The call for architects is designed to recruit a panel of architectural practices to design the various elements of the Athletes Village in Stratford City, East London.
This represents Phase One of the Zones 2-7 development of Stratford City, for which Lend Lease and its partners First Base and East Thames have been named preferred Development Partner by London & Continental Railways and the Olympic Delivery Authority. This phase will involve the development of approximately 4,200 residential dwellings and related accommodation that will become the Village for the London 2012 Games.
When will the panel be announced?
Tuesday 31 July 2007.
How big will the panel be?
It is expected that the panel will be comprised of 40 architectural practices.
Do practices need to be of a certain size in order to be eligible?
Any size of practice is eligible to enter. Indeed, we actively encourage submissions from emerging practices.
Does a place on the panel guarantee a commission?
Unfortunately not, but needless to say we will be looking to appoint practices to the panel in whom we have full confidence and who we feel can contribute to the development of the Athletes Village.
Is there a masterplanner involved?
Yes. Fletcher Priest are the masterplanners for the site and practices who are awarded commissions will work closely with them. They will provide guidance on the context of buildings (e.g. street characteristics) and will review progress of work and act as liaison with the Olympic Delivery Authority and the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games.
Given its status as preferred Development Partner, is the Lend Lease led consortium entitled to appoint architects?
As preferred Development Partner, it is necessary for Lend Lease and its partners First Base and East Thames to continue to work towards project implementation. The appointment of this panel is one of many initiatives the team has underway.
Are you also looking for Landscape Architects?
This selection process is aimed at architectural practices for residential design commissions. Landscape commissions will be progressed at later stage.
